All METRO LOGISTICS logistics centers achieved the International Featured Standard Logistics, or IFS Logistics for short, with the best possible results in the last audit. The certification with the rating "higher level" proves that we meet the highest requirements in terms of safety, quality and process management when handling food.
The food industry expects one thing above all: freshness and safety. In order to meet this demand, numerous guidelines and demanding food law requirements must be complied with, from cultivation and production to delivery to the retailer or customer. IFS certification pursues the common goal of trade and industry to create transparency and trust throughout the entire supply chain and therefore sets high quality and hygiene standards for food logistics. This IFS standard, which was developed specifically for activities in the areas of storage, picking, and transport, applies to non-refrigerated, refrigerated, and frozen foods as well as non-food products.
"We are very proud that all 9 logistics sites have now achieved the highest level of certification and have steadily improved since we began participating in the IFS standard, as this proves that quality management is firmly anchored in our corporate responsibility," says Lutz Böhme, Head of Quality Management. "What also sets us apart is that we have mastered the processes in all assortment and temperature ranges of food logistics: from pineapple to minced meat or frozen pizza to fresh pike-perch, we keep all products in stock and they are in safe hands with us. Food safety plays a central role in our holistic approach to quality management, as it enables us to offer our customers reliability regarding our logistics services, while at the same time creating a high level of trust."
