Green supply chain management is becoming increasingly important and sustainable business processes and environmentally friendly measures are also a focus for us at METRO LOGISTICS. Integrating the environmental aspect into logistics processing has a positive effect on increasing efficiency in supply chains.
Our concept of procurement logistics is characterized by its positive ecological balance: Through the bundling and optimization approach, we ensure that trucks are on the road with significantly higher capacity usage and thus actively reduce CO2 emissions. This effect is reinforced by the prioritized handling of our transport partners or our own fleet at the ramps and the associated shorter waiting times.
Recently, we took another step forward. For the transport of frozen goods as part of the procurement logistics concept, we have been working with the new transport partner Koeltrans Angeren BV since December 2021. Approximately 75% of Koeltrans' vehicle fleet has been converted to LNG trucks. This involves the use of natural gas-powered trucks for FTL transport of products in the frozen sector. From the suppliers to our logistics center, the goods are transported at -20 °C. Approximately 300 full loads are already being carried out with the new trucks. Further conversions are planned, which will expand the cooperation.
Toll exemption - trucks powered by natural gas will remain exempt from tolls until the end of 2023
Cost efficiency - savings from cheaper natural gas as well as lower fuel consumption
Reduction of CO2 emissions
Driving and performance characteristics comparable to diesel trucks
